The descent into dark feeling where compassion for the human is born.
This gate descends into the dark of feeling, crisis, longing, the night sea. Its shadow is turbulence, drama repeating because pain is unmet. Its gift is humanity: the depth of someone who has survived their own darkness with eyes open.
The practice is to stop fleeing emotional weather and let it initiate you. Every descent, consciously endured, converts suffering into substance. The heart grows room. Eventually another's pain is felt as one's own without drowning in it, and that spaciousness is compassion.
